BACKGROUND SOUNDS
Background sounds can be confusing. These sounds compete with the sounds that you want to hear. People with normal hearing also hear background sounds, but the impaired ear has more of a challenge hearing in restaurants, traffic, family gatherings, and other complex noise situations.
Background noises are ameliorated with today’s upper level hearing aid technology. Various features, including feedback management compression, dual microphones, locators, and wind noise reducers, assist the user to improve hearing. The goal is not to eliminate background noise, but to hear important speech cues and speech information in the presence of the noise. The result is better clarity and less auditory fatigue.
