ADAPTING
It takes time for the brain to adjust to new hearing aids. In many cases,
the hearing aid is not the instant solution we wish. There may be sounds
that have not been heard in a long time, and the brain will need to re-learn
how to recognize the sounds. At first, it may seem that you are hearing
everything! -- both what you like and what you do not like. Over time
the brain can adapt, although to some extent adaptation depends on age,
physical wellness, and the time elapsed since normal hearing.
Nothing can replace normal hearing, but with new technology and good education
from a caring hearing professional about what to expect, you can enhance
your life immeasurably by improving your ability to hear and communicate
with family and friends.
